World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee was named recipient of the first-ever Millennium Technology Prize. In 1989 he invented the World Wide Web, an internet-based hypermedia initiative for global information sharing. while working at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory. He wrote the first web client (browser-editor) and server in 1990.

The famous Bell's inequality of quantum mechanics has been tested in a high-energy particle physics experiment for the first time. The inequality was violated by three standard deviations in experiments with B mesons at the KEK laboratory in Japan
